Augusta University College of Nursing has excellent opportunities for Patient Care Technicians to be part of the nursing team at East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta, GA. The innovative partnership that has been developed between the East Central Regional Hospital and Augusta University partners professional nurses with advance practice nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and direct care staff, an inter-professional, psychiatric/mental health team. The technicians will assist in providing high quality care while practicing and mentoring on a newly developed education unit designed to teach future mental health professionals using an interdisciplinary approach. Augusta University will provide the academic resource promote high quality practice and research.

East Central Regional Hospital is a state operated psychiatric facility that provide psychiatric care to people with severe and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental and intellectual disabilities.

The Patient Care Technician is an unlicensed staff member who provides intermediate level nursing care to patients under the discretion and supervision of registered nurses.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Observes special precautions, such as suicidal precautions, close observation, escape precautions and/or restraints. Measures vital signs, height, and weight; Specimen collection; Capillary blood glucose monitoring; Simple dressing changes. Transports patients, supplies, and equipment. Provides direction and training to patients in ADL to promote increased independence; Uses positive behavior management technique to teach normative, cognitive, and social behaviors to patients; Participates in patient treatment team meetings. Utilizes knowledge base to assist in meeting patient care needs (i.e. comfort and ADL measures). Based on competence credentialing, develops, and maintains cross trainable skills related to both direct patient care and care of mental health patients. Participates in activities that facilitate learning the principles of the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care). Performs all other duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal institution; Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification; Must be actively enrolled in an RN Program (BSN or ADN); Completion of Nursing Fundamentals and and the ability to obtain the RN licensure within one (1) year of graduation or completion of Nursing program; Resume must specify area of interest.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Accountable for safe, prompt, and accurate completion of assigned duties. Operates within framework of education and job duties as outlined in job description.

Certifications/License
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Day/Evening/Night; Rotate Weekends.
Pay Grade: 7
Salary Minimum: $12.61- $14.78 hourly.
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
