What does a Patient Care Assistant do?


The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient flow of patients through the practice by monitoring physician schedules, placing patients in exam rooms, starting office visit notes as patients arrive, and updating patient charts with medications, vital signs, allergies, etc. prior to seeing the physician. No experience is required for this role, we will help you be successful and train you for this role!


What is the job like?


  • Obtains and records patients vital signs, recent hospitalizations/tests, obtains pharmacy information, and other updated health information prior to the patient seeing the physician.
  • Documents patient care and completes EMR tasks accurately and timely.

  • Ensures effective patient communication and efficient patient care delivery.
  • Assists patients, families, and physicians to resolve patient related issues.

  • Works and communicates effectively with all providers.

  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned areas and ensures adequate levels of supplies are maintained.

  • Performs clerical duties such as greeting patients; registration; scheduling; and answering phones.
  • Maintains medical records; distributes reports and correspondence; files, photocopies, etc.

  • Collaborates with members of the health care team to assist in obtaining outside records prior to or during clinic visit as delegated by the medical assistant, RN, or physician.


What are the job requirements?


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • BLS from the American Heart Association

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical practice and care is helpful

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Basic office skills
