Job Description

AECOM has a position available for an SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT TO JOIN THE ENERGY & ESG ADVISORY team to work in Chicago, IL or several other prime AECOM locations. This is a hybrid position involving an opportunity to work remotely combined with some in-office/client site presence as requested/needed.

This team works on a variety of grid modernization, smart city, resilience, and decarbonization related initiatives for municipal, utility, and private clients. Examples of topics covered by this team include building and transportation decarbonization, microgrids, distributed generation, energy efficiency, district energy systems, net-zero buildings & communities, monitoring base commissioning infrastructure, energy-water nexus, and coordinated infrastructure investment.

The Sustainability Consultant will report to the Energy & ESG Advisory Planning Lead to drive forward solutions for clients and partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

Primary tasks will include:
Designing approaches to equitable engagement in support of advisory and planning projects
Execution of engagement plans in collaboration with technical experts, subconsultant partners, communities, and client stakeholders
Synthesis of engagement outcomes to inform project analyses and deliverables
Support of strategic growth initiatives and business development

The Sustainability Consultant may also be responsible for supporting advisory projects in other ways including deliverable drafting, synthesizing concepts into written and visual reports for both non-technical and technical audiences, or research.
Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation with an acute passion for developing creative client solutions based on relevant and diverse stakeholder input and growing a collaborative team.
Critical requirements include teamwork skills, experience in social impact, equity, or environmental justice, knowledge of the energy/infrastructure industries, and the ability to develop high quality and creative project deliverables in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry.
Experience and ability to create and deliver presentations to audiences of all levels and backgrounds about technical and non-technical topics.
Strong management abilities, both individually and as part of a team.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, and leadership skills
Proficiency with engagement tools and platforms

Qualifications:
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

BA/BS and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Experience to include leading community and stakeholder engagement for planning projects
Previous utility or municipal government work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in communications, economics, policy, engineering, business, education, urban planning, or related, relevant field preferred
Graduate Degree in communications, policy, engineering, economics, business, urban planning, or relevant field is favorable
6+ years of experience is desired
Demonstrated writing skills and ability to communicate complex processes or ideas simplistically
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Previous work experience and/or background in energy savings projects, sustainability, resilience, smart city technology, climate, project management, or equity related fields
Related certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED, WELL, Envision or similar including those relating to engagement and facilitation is helpful.
