Job Description

The James Beard Foundation (JBF) is a vital cultural institution with deep roots honoring and advancing the culinary arts and industry for over 30 years. JBF’s mission is to celebrate, support, and elevate the people behind America’s food culture and champion a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability. The organization has experienced a historic period of organizational transformation and an increase in philanthropic support as it focused its efforts towards supporting the independent restaurant industry to rebuild and recover in the wake of the pandemic. As a 501c3 national organization, JBF brings its mission to life through the annual James Beard Awards, industry and community-focused initiatives and programs, advocacy, partnerships, and events across the country.

This role is currently remote due to COVID-19. JBF requires all employees and freelancers/contractors be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 unless a medical or religious accommodation is needed in accordance with applicable law.

Requirements

Awards Ethics Committee Administrative Support

The contractor will be responsible for supporting the James Beard Awards Ethics Committee during the 2023 Awards cycle.

Contractor Responsibilities & Deliverables

General Admin Support:

  • Creation and circulation of agendas, taking notes during meetings, and sending follow up communications
  • Schedule meetings and lead in sending pertinent communications via email
  • Drafting policies and procedures and other relevant documents for the Ethics Committee. This includes distribution of drafts, collection of edits, implementation of all edits and finalization of documents, distribution for final approvals
  • Tracking and filing documents (we use Microsoft Teams)
  • Liaising between Ethics Committee and: VP of Awards/Awards Team, and other JBF staff where necessary. Please note, the liaison between the Board and Ethics Committee will be the Board of Trustees’ Governance Committee Chairperson.
  • Monitoring iSight where allegations are entered, entering them into one place (e.g., iSight), and circulating allegations summaries to the committee.

Serving as liaison with:

  • Any required legal and/or investigative team, and tabulations accounting firm (where necessary).
  • Ethics Committee and VP of Awards for any questions, concerns, follow ups.
  • Other staff or consultants working on the Awards, where appropriate (fact checker/vetter)
  • Operations and/or Events for any exchange of confidential information


Additional:

Support Track and facilitate approval for any program expenses

Additional administrative work as needed

Litigation administrative support experience a plus

Discretion and Confidentiality are key components of this role.

Benefits

Pricing/Rates and Estimated Schedule

$45/hour

Average 10-20 hours per week x 6-7 months.
