Job Summary


Under general supervision, responsible for assisting and leading procurement activities, including availability, inventory management, and control of pharmacy purchases. Orders product using best possible source of procurement with the goal of achieving contract compliance across multiple purchase accounts and contracts. Responsible for working within 340B policy and with cooperation of 340B program and financial analysts. Researches backorders and locates substitute products as necessary. Establish and/or uses reports for reviewing procurement of pharmaceuticals. Orders controlled substances based on standard process for ordering and in compliance with DEA requirements.


Responsibilities


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Ensures that the pharmacy is stocked with essential, formulary-approved pharmaceuticals, fluids, and supplies and performs all related purchasing duties 2. Maintains cost effective inventory levels of all formulary drugs, fluids, and supplies based upon financial analytics reporting 3. Complies with 340B requirements and policy as well as group purchasing contracts to ensure optimal cost-effectiveness of all purchases 4. Reviews pharmacy stock for outdates, overstock, and proper storage on a routine basis to ensure the timely return of outdated items and/or recommended deletions from formulary based on movement of stock 5. Management of large volume, floor stock medications, and automated dispensing cabinets as assigned 6. Reviews drug shortages and escalates to pharmacy leadership as necessary 7. Ensures that all orders are processed in accordance to pre-established guidelines, DHHA policies, and Federal and State Law 8. Evaluates and corrects invoice discrepancies 9. Ensures proper fling of purchase orders, invoices, and controlled substances forms in compliance with the needs of the department and regulatory agencies 10. Uses and operates pharmacy equipment appropriately and when necessary 11. Other duties as assigned may include but are not limited to pharmacy technician operations, stocking, unit checks, and teaching of students/interns/resident

Knowledge of and ability to use proper lifting, pushing, and pulling technique to minimize risk of injury 6. Knowledge of general pharmacy operations 7. Analytical thinking, problem solving, and process improvement skills 8. Ability to disseminate program information, policies, rules and/or regulations 9. Ability to consistently implement program, department and organizational policies and procedures 10. Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal, training, negotiating, and customer service skills in all interactions with internal and external healthcare team members 11. Understands how state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures impact specific job responsibilities and functions 12. Demonstrates actions to reasonably prevent, detect, and report unethical and unlawful business practices Computers and Technology 1. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required 2. Proficiency with Epic, preferred 3. Proficiency with various internet ordering platforms. Supervisory Responsibilities: this position has no supervisory responsibilities


Education


  • High School Diploma or GED


Experience


  • Three years of pharmacy technician experience or equivalent experience performing inventory management in a healthcare-related position, required.
  • One (1) year pharmacy experience as buyer or inventory specialist, preferred.
