About The Role

We are looking for an experienced consultant to help lead our growing portfolio of rail work across North America, but with a focus in the US. You will work with our NA Rail Market Leads and the wider rail team to both continue delivering high quality work to our existing clients and to broaden our service offering and clients in the rail market. Our target work includes:
  • Commercial and technical leadership on rail transportation projects, potentially including providing advice on rail ridership and revenue, business case analysis, strategic infrastructure planning, rail operations and operation cost analysis and/or rail-related data analytics.
  • The development and sponsorship of major rail transportation projects and programs.
  • Regional or non-standard transportation planning projects.
  • Delivery of rail initiatives, whether planning future infrastructure projects or new or changing services.
  • Economic impact of major public infrastructure investments.
  • Major capital expansion programs and operational considerations.

We are seeking a motivated, self-starting, problem-solver and collaborative professional, with experience managing analytically-driven projects and a keen interest in the US rail sector.

Key/Desirable Accountabilities:
  • Lead and manage projects in our rail market, potentially including providing advice on rail ridership and revenue, business case analysis, strategic infrastructure planning, rail operations and operation cost analysis and/or rail-related data analytics.
  • Client engagement: Engage proactively with existing and new clients to explore their problems, identify solutions and successfully deliver on their needs.
  • Lead delivery: Lead teams to deliver innovative and successful proposals and projects to time, cost, risk management, and product quality.
  • Work closely with our NA Rail Mark Leads to deliver against company financial and behavioral targets.
  • Mentor and supervise more junior colleagues across NA.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider Steer NA business, both to facilitate overall company success and potentially support projects outside of the rail market should the need arise.
    • Experience of managing projects specifically in the rail sector is preferred, but not required.

Work Environment

All Steer employees seeking a full-time opportunity are encouraged to spend 60% of their time either in office or on-site with clients. An employee s typical work week consists of 40 hours (37.5 for Canada). Hours, expectations, and exemption status will be determined for any applicant seeking a part-time opportunity

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have 6+ years of relevant experience, including specific experience managing analytically-driven tasks/projects. Key requirements include:
  • A keen interest and prior experience in the US rail sector or the wider transportation sector.
  • Proven evidence of managing teams comprising multiple capabilities and dispersed geographies.
  • Ability to tackle complex problems and make logical recommendations, including in areas outside of your core expertise.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Technical subject matter expertise in Steer existing or target areas, potentially including providing advice on rail ridership and revenue, business case analysis, strategic infrastructure planning, rail operations and operation cost analysis and/or rail-related data analytics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
