Position Summary
North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA), based in Dallas, is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents, and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances, as we as those experiencing a substance use disorder. NTBHA fosters trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care.
The family partner uses lived experience to help other caregivers learn how to help their child with a mental health diagnosis.

A Family Partner is a parent or Legally Authorized Representative (LAR) who has multiple years of lived experience parenting a child experiencing serious emotional disturbance or mental illness and who can articulate the understanding of their experience with another parent or family member. Family Partners may be a birth parent, adoptive parent, foster parent, or legally recognized family member standing in for an absent parent.
The Family Partner will implement support services for families with a child in need of behavioral health services. Family Partners act as a member of the treatment team and follow NTBHA procedures. The ideal candidate will have extensive lived experience and display compassion, education, proficiency, and experience assisting families with children exhibiting serious emotional disturbance or mental illness.
Duties
- Assists families in locating and utilizing available services.
- Develops and maintains up-to-date usable directory of appropriate services.
- Supports and encourages families to educate themselves by attending parent education classes and provides them with material pertaining to mental health issues, educational issues, and other pertinent issues.
- Participates in staffing and team meetings.
- Maintains professional work behaviors.
- Maintains appropriate documentation.
- Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies, and performance contract documentation requirements.
- Assists with NTBHA’s Children’s Residential Treatment Center (RTC) Project including contacting families, facilitating applications, and making connections to existing resources.
- Assists families who are working with the Community Resource Coordination Groups (CRCG) ensuring they are oriented to the steps involved in that process – focusing on families in Dallas County.
- Promotes collaboration among families, providers, and natural supports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have multiple years of personal experience as parent or Legally Authorized Representative (LAR) raising a child or youth with serious emotional disturbance or mental illness.
- Must demonstrate success navigating a child-service system (e.g. mental health, juvenile justice, social security, or special education) as a parent or LAR.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Degree preferred.
- Will be certified and in good standing with the credentialing agency for Certified Family Partners in the state of Texas, or,
- If not certified upon hiring, must become certified within one year.
- Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, well-constructed and grammatically correct.
- Able to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Able to use common office software.

Pay: Up to $40,000.00 per year
